What the Currency Exchange calculator does

A currency exchange calculator converts money from one currency to another and, crucially, shows how transaction fees and hidden percentage markups reduce what you actually receive. The advertised rate is rarely the rate you get.

How the calculation works

You enter the current exchange rate manually. The tool applies any percentage markup to reveal the effective rate, converts your amount, then subtracts fees to show the true amount received.

Formula

Effective rate = Rate × (1 − markup%). Received = (Amount × effective rate) − fees.

What your results mean

Converting $1,000 at a 0.92 rate with a 1% markup and $5 fee yields roughly €906 rather than the €920 the headline rate implies.

Limitations: This tool uses a manual rate and never fetches or caches live data, so it cannot show a real-time rate. Always confirm the current rate before a transaction.

Frequently asked questions

No, and that is deliberate. The calculator uses only the exchange rate you type in manually, so it never risks presenting an out-of-date rate as if it were current. Exchange rates move constantly throughout the day, and a cached or stale figure could mislead you at the moment of a transaction. Before converting, look up the current rate from a reliable live source, your bank, or your payment provider, then enter it here. This keeps you in control of the accuracy and ensures the result reflects the real rate at the time you actually plan to exchange money.
